Buddy Floore Road in Wewahitchka, Florida (Wewa for short, it's an Indian name for Watereyes) is a very rural location, especially considering the beaches are only minutes away.....12 miles to Mexico Beach and 12 miles to Wewa.
The person overseeing the engineering of this house in 2005-2006 did a remarkable job, hurricane straps under the siding, over and under the house, 2"x6" wall studs, full unfinished basement, the house is elevated per code on a concrecte block foundation embedded on solid poured footer and stucco on the exterior (stem-wall foundation). Poured footers with piers run midline the length of the house with hurricane straps embedded. The structure is modular, no steel, all pine 2"x10" ledgers, 2"x10" floor joists, etc. One inch PVC trunk supply provides excellent water pressure. Well equipment and filtration are protected in the basement, all exterior supply lines are buried below frost lines and a single gate valve shuts off all outside water supply in case of hard freeze. Electrical utilities are underground. There were two homes here, one was lived in while main home was being built, so there are two deep wells, two septic systems, and two underground electric utilities about 75 yards apart.
As you drive down Buddy Floore Road from State Highway 386, you'll cross an old wooden single lane bridge (about to be re-furbished) and veer right at the curve. We have three new neighbors at the turn, they've purchased both sides of the road and have done excellent jobs improving the properties and taking pride in their new buildings, excellent neighbors.
Coach Buddy Floore started a farm and family in the late 50's. After a long career with Port St. Joe School as a coach, he went to work for the school system as superintendent of maintenance. His wife, Kathleen, was a teacher at Port St. Joe Elementary School and they both retired and continued they're lives at the farm. Grace Kathleen Floore passed in 2009 and our best friend Buddy Floore passed December 29, 2021, God rest his soul. They both were a blessing and just bringing up their names in town will start a great conversation. The farm (421 Buddy Floore Rd) is in extensive disarray due to Hurricane Michael, Buddy's demise, and current neglect, but is still semi-operational. With that being mentioned, it is an acute eyesore at the moment with hopefully some renewed effort to clean it up soon. Once you pass the mess, you'll be on our property.
